1. Make sure you have a new waterdeposit or a deposit which is never be used for anything else as water. Reason is simple. All materials used for deposits, even hard plastic, do absorb a little bit of the contains inside the deposit, as for example a barrel. If a deposit is cleaned or used with cleaning materials as chloryde, it will release this very very slowly. Just enough to kill your plants in time and you wondering why they died all of a sudden because they were doing so well.
2. Make sure you have a watersupply stable in values of ph and ec. This will make preparing a nutrient mix for your plants in future much easier.
3. Check ph of water coming in. Depending on what substrate you use this is of high or medium importance. When cultivating on hydro its high important. For usage on soil less because soil is self regulating if enough soil is used and no exessive values of ph (or ec) in watersupply.
When watersupply is very insecure in values you can also opt for osmose or cooling water ac. This water is flat in every way, means no life, be aware of it.
When watersupply contains chloride, in most countries it does, its recommended to have your waterdeposit "air" for 24 hours with water in it for a deposit of 200 ltrs/53 gallon. The chlorydes will be vaporised.
4. Check ec of water coming in. You have to know this value to be able to measure how much ec you added in form of fertilizers or other later. Many people think ec is fertilizer. Many think ec is minerals. Many people think ec in wayersupply is polution. But at the end it means electronic connectivity. Nothing more nothing less. This means ec in watersupply before added fertilizers does not neceseraly mean its bad. Mostly it is but not always and everywhere. It can detect many different connectivities inside your water.
What watercompanies say they supply on ec or ph by water reports do not always come true. Watch out for "cleaning days" of infrastructure waternet, values will go crazy many times till 24 hours after cleaning or maintainance.
5. Remember ec's are always adding up. This means if your deposit has watersupply with ec 1.0 and you add 2.0 by fertilizers you will end up with 3.0 ! Also the other way around, when your fertilized deposit has a ec of 2.6 and your watersupply is 0.5 you know you added 2.1 ec in fertilizers.
5. Room temperature water of around 16 to 22 c/61 70 f is perfect. This to have enough oxigen inside as well as absorbtion level and speed, of water to the nutrients delivered by you.
6. After mixing in your fertilizers, nutrients or other things you like to add (stirr well), wait for half an hour to measure values or to start fertilize. This way the water will be capable to deliver to your plants completly to your expectations.
7. Be aware that leftovers in deposits always cause deficiencies in values in preperations of deposit for the next fertilization.
8. Never use housekeeping cleaning materials to clean your waterdeposit for cultivation.
9. Prepare without rush and without being influenced by smoking things, drinking or otherwise.
