SOG Sea of Green

SOG Sea of Green

Welcome to the world of SoG, where small marijuana plants are the service. An eminently advanced growing technique. Definitely not for beginners, but good to try if you have a lot of experience in growing weed. With the SoG Sea of Green, maximum yields can be achieved in a minimum of time. At the very least, then you should know what you're doing - and that's why you're here! To learn all about The Sea of Green.

What is the SoG Sea of Green?
With the Sea of Green method you grow a lot of small weed plants in a very short time. All those small weed plants are close to each other and provide a uniform green cover of leaves. A sea of green. In SoG, you force the plants to start flowering faster, so to speak, with the goal of harvesting as quickly as possible and starting over. Everything depends on a short growing period (vegetative phase). This way you get a maximum yield of weed in a very short time.

So a lot of small grass plants instead of a small number of large units. To keep them nice and small, it is necessary to grow them in small pots. It is recommended to put square pots, 4 to 10 liters, close to each other and fill a large area. Also, time is of the essence. You should let the weed plants switch to flowering before they get big. With autoflowering and cuttings, the growth phase with SoG usually only takes 1 to 2 weeks. With "normal"  feminized cannabis seeds this is only 3 to 4 weeks. After that you have to make sure that the plant canopy stays uniform and that you can harvest as soon as possible.

To get all the energy of the cannabis plant in the right place (in the buds), you can still choose to prune the large bracts that cover the top of the plants. "Toppen" can also have added value. That's difficult with a large Sea of Green, though. You just have to get in the way.

SoG and SCroG?
Don't confuse SoG and SCroG. Scrounging is something completely different. The only similarity is the large green roof of plants you create. In SoG, you don't work with a scrounger. Also, your plants will never be as tall as with scrogging. Well, if you do it right.

What you need to know for high weed yields with SoG.
You need good ventilation in SoG. Because the plants are placed in close proximity to each other, the air humidity should not be too high and they should constantly receive enough fresh air and excess moist air should be removed. Don't take care of this? Then molds and vermin have free rein and your Sea of Green is doomed to fail. If a plant gets sick, it spreads quickly because the plants are so close together. Besides SoG, you should not use growing techniques like LST, budding or film. You have neither time nor space for this. Stay with SoG and maybe some robbing (lollipopping). That's more than enough.

Use square pots so you don't lose space.

With SoG you have to deal with light in a slightly different way. Often grow lights are hung a little higher than normal. This distributes the light power better over the whole sea of green and stretches your plants a bit more. The latter is not a bad thing, since they don't have much time to grow.
SOG is not for hobby growers who want to follow all the rules. We only talk about SOG cultivation of 8 to 16 small weed plants per m2. A large SOG grow can consist of 36 plants or even more. It is how colorful you want to make it yourself, but in any case there are more than the 5 plants tolerated.
With a large SOG crop it can be difficult to give water and nutrition because you can't easily reach the center of the foliage with the watering can. Make sure you have the right tools.
Be aware that many plants can cause a strong odor. The larger the Sea of Green, the more weed odor will bother you. Provide carbon filters if necessary.
In SoG many things can go wrong if you have little experience growing weed. On the other hand, of course, the yield is high for the short period in which you grow, so you can grow quickly again.

Sea of Green with Autoflowering, Fast Flowering, Photoperiod Weed Plants or Cuttings?
For this growing technique it is best to work with fast flowering or autoflowering cannabis plants. The growing period of these seeds is usually much shorter - and that is the intention! In addition, the entire duration of cultivation (from seed to harvest) is considerably shorter.

Of course you can also make a Sea of Green with regular feminized cannabis plants. Indica strains are better suited for this because they stretch less and therefore stay smaller. Do you really want to do it professionally? Then it's best to work with cuttings from which you know how the mother plant develops.

Works best in combination with marijuana cuttings.
Many SoG growers use cuttings because you don't have to buy expensive seeds over and over again. Also, with cuttings you often know the approximate size of the final plants (as you can see on the mother plant) and you won't encounter any surprises. With each new seedling, the length, growing period and more factors may differ. Even with the same strain or species. Seeds are still natural products and are therefore always unpredictable to some extent.

Advantages and disadvantages of Sea of Green.
Advantages:

You can grow marijuana faster and therefore make several crops per year.
Very suitable for autoflowering, fast flowering and cuttings.
You can make a Sea of Green as big as you want. A small space of a few square meters is enough. But you can also fill an entire hangar with it.
It increases the total yield of weed considerably.
Disadvantages:

This is not a growing technique for beginners. There are many factors such as watering, light, ventilation and weather. You have to take them all into account.
Good ventilation is of vital importance. Infections and vermin can spread very quickly and ruin things.
Sea of Green is sometimes not allowed by law because you grow more than 5 plants.
